Transparent protective shield with a scientifically tested aerosol-protective edge
Infectious viral diseases, such as COVID-19 or the flu, are transmitted in various ways. During a pandemic, the mobile TAC V+ high-performance air purifiers provide a high level of protection against airborne infections caused by virus-laden aerosols; the unique acrylic glass protective screens with aerosol-blocking edges reduce the risk of direct infection from larger droplets and smaller aerosol particles. Two-way protection against flying droplets and airborne aerosols
Unlike conventional “sneeze guards,” which provide protection only when speaking, from larger droplets expelled when speaking, sneezing, or coughing, transparent acrylic panels with aerosol-protective edges prevent tiny aerosols from penetrating the protective screen even during the closest contact. Acrylic panels with aerosol-protective edges shield the person sitting next to you—or the person sitting or standing across from you—from droplet transmission. In addition, the perimeter protective edge prevents the uncontrolled spread of aerosol particles in other directions. Particles potentially carrying the virus are reliably trapped behind the screen and mix with the air before being removed by the room air purifier.

- at the customer service counters of banks, insurance companies, or government agencies
- between the receptionist and the patient in the waiting room or the doctor’s office
- both at the hotel front desk when checking in guests and in the spa and wellness areas
When combined with the high-performance TAC V+ air purifier or other suitable room air purifiers, it provides unique, all-around protection for everyone inside the room, who interact with one another while sitting or standing side by side—without having to wear masks or maintain large distances. (However, the measures set forth in the local hygiene plan take precedence.)
More protection with all-around aerosol protection
Whether in a classroom, an open-plan office, an administrative office, a doctor’s office, or a retail store—when wearing a face mask, aerosols are mostly expelled forward and to the sides, but they always rise upward due to convection and, over time, will eventually reach even high walls without any effort.
How it works: Trotec protective screen, with circumferential aerosol protection
The rim surrounding the Troteci protective screen ensures that when speaking, coughing, or sneezing, the aerosol particles projected toward the acrylic glass panel are deflected toward the protective wall and flow radially outward toward the edge, where they are deflected again. The pressure difference at the edge creates a vortex that traps aerosol particles in that area. The protective edge also reliably prevents thermal buoyancy. People sitting nearby are much better protected from invisible aerosol particles.
Less protection without a circular aerosol barrier
Transparent protective panels are not new. Even before the pandemic, these cutouts were in use in food retail. However, they were used only as so-called “sneeze guards,” not as effective protection against aerosols.
How it works: The protective barrier currently on sale does NOT have a circular aerosol protective rim
In the case of acrylic sheets without a border, aerosol particles continue to flow radially unimpeded along the edges of the protective barrier and spread over a large area, even behind the acrylic sheet. As a result, clouds of aerosol particles can enter the breathing zone of people located nearby or at a greater distance.
Conclusion: Only protective walls with edges designed to contain aerosols deflect the flow of aerosol particles and thus prevent aerosols from passing through the protective wall.
For offices, call centers, and workspaces: a protective barrier that provides aerosol protection throughout
Communication in everyday office life is just as important as personal interaction with clients on an equal footing. Trotec has therefore also developed a protective acrylic partition with a perimeter aerosol barrier for smaller offices, open-plan offices, call centers, consultation settings, and reception desks. The protective screen separates people sitting or standing across from or next to each other, and when used in conjunction with mobile air purifiers, it improves protection against contamination for all employees.
Enhanced direct protection against infection thanks to the aerosol’s all-around protective rim
Thanks to the protective barrier, people sitting across from each other are better protected against direct transmission resulting from breathing, talking, coughing, or sneezing than they would be with just a face covering, surgical masks, or everyday masks. The all-around aerosol protection edge of the panel ensures that aerosol particles emitted by people do not simply drift around the protective barrier to a neighbor or flow directly into the room. On August 20, 2020, the German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health published a new SARS-CoV-2 occupational safety regulation. The regulation sets out measures for all sectors of the economy to reduce and keep the risk of infection among employees at a low level.
