Trotec Uranin – for detecting leaks or checking the flow path

Classic uranium powder has been a recognized marking agent for many years and is one of the most highly fluorescent marking dyes. That’s reason enough to offer Uranium Blue as a vibrant alternative among classic fluorescent dyes. Both uranium dyes have unique properties, so you can always choose the best uranium dye for your project at Trotec.

Trotec Uranin – for detecting leaks or checking the flow path

Classic uranium powder has been a recognized marking agent for many years and is one of the most highly fluorescent marking dyes. That’s reason enough to offer Uranium Blue as a vivid alternative among classic fluorescent dyes. Both uranium dyes have unique properties, so you can always choose the best uranium dye for your project at Trotec:

Uranium Green

This UV-fluorescent dye is clearly visible to the naked eye, which is why it is often used to mark bodies of water. In high dilutions, uranium powder—which is highly soluble in water—is toxicologically harmless and is ideal for detecting and testing all types of leaks, where colored water must seep through by capillary action, resulting in a clearly delayed overflow. Even the smallest leaks can be made very clearly visible using a UV lamp.

Pure uranine powder or highly concentrated aqueous solutions are quite dark red in color. They do not fluoresce. Only at higher dilutions does uranine turn the water fluorescent yellowish-green to green, depending on the concentration. When illuminated with a UV lamp, the effect becomes very clearly visible.

Uranium Blue

Like Uranin Green, this fluorescent color emulsion is characterized by its extremely vivid fluorescent properties. Unlike Uranin Green, however, Uranin Blue is not visible to the naked eye. For this reason, when diluted, Uranin Blue remains virtually invisible across nearly all regions of the visible spectrum.

The combination of a fully floating substance and a formaldehyde-free emulsion, which has exceptionally high UV-excitation sensitivity, makes Uranin Blue the top recommendation for leak detection applications in mineral-based building materials, as Uranin Blue does not exhibit particularly good capillary mobility. Due to its ultra-fine particle size and very intense blue fluorescence under UV excitation, it allows for time-efficient UV inspections over large areas. Uranin Blue is not available as a powder, but as a ready-to-use emulsion that can be diluted in water.

Important: Uranin Green and Uranin Blue are not suitable for use as food coloring!

Advantages of the marking agent:

  • High-intensity, high-brightness UV-fluorescent dyes
  • A tracer that is generally recognized for detecting leaks or verifying flow paths
  • Long-term chemical stability for long-term studies
  • 100% free of lead and formaldehyde (Uranine Blue)
  • Good capillary mobility
  • High yield
