BQ21 Particulate Matter Monitor with Bluetooth® Connectivity

BQ21 Particulate Matter Monitor with Bluetooth® Connectivity

With the smart BQ21 Bluetooth® handheld meter, you can keep track of outdoor particulate matter levels even over extended periods of time. With 5,000 data points of flash memory, the particulate matter monitor records all health-related indoor climate parameters such as air temperature, humidity, and dust fractions ( <, and 10 micrometers) in accordance with the internationally used PM (Particulate Matter) standard, specifically PM10 and PM2.5 (particle count, size, and mass concentration in the air). Air pollution is displayed on a 2.0-inch color screen either numerically in micrograms per cubic meter of indoor air (µg/m³) or as the number of particles. In addition, a color bar graph indicator provides information on the current level of particulate matter.

BQ21 Particulate Matter Monitor with Bluetooth® Connectivity

air quality monitor

Measuring particulate matter protects employees, customers, visitors, and students

Excessive dust in the workplace poses a risk not only to the health of employees and coworkers, but also to the products being processed, inventory, and technical systems due to increased concentrations of particles in the air. For this reason, many countries have now established legal limit values for fine dust concentrations, compliance with which must be regularly monitored, particularly in the workplace, but also in schools, daycare centers, care facilities, and government offices.

Measuring air quality has never been easier: the BQ21 with Bluetooth® connectivity

With the smart BQ21 Bluetooth® handheld meter, you can keep track of outdoor particulate matter levels even over extended periods of time. With 5,000 data points of flash memory, the particulate matter monitor records all health-related indoor climate parameters such as air temperature, humidity, and dust fractions ( <, and 10 micrometers) in accordance with the internationally used PM (Particulate Matter) standard—specifically PM10 and PM2.5 (particle count, size, and mass concentration in the air). Air pollution is displayed on a 2.0-inch color screen either numerically in micrograms per cubic meter of indoor air (µg/m³) or as the number of particles. In addition, a color bar graph indicator provides information on the current level of particulate matter.

Audible alert for poor air quality

Particularly practical: The air quality thresholds defined by the WHO (World Health Organization) are already stored in the BQ21. If particle exposure or particle concentration exceeds the WHO alert threshold, an alarm sounds.

Assessment and Logging, Including the MultiMeasure Mobile App

As a state-of-the-art environmental measurement device, the BQ21 is 100 percent “MultiMeasure Mobile-ready” and is therefore equipped to meet all requirements for the professional evaluation and documentation of measurement data. Recorded measurement data can be easily and conveniently transferred via the integrated Bluetooth® interface to a smartphone or tablet, where it can be professionally evaluated and logged using the free MultiMeasure mobile app (Android and iOS).

The useful combination of the BQ21 and the professional MultiMeasure Mobile evaluation software provides fast and reliable data on the concentration of fine particulate matter in indoor air at any time —including a wide range of analysis options, such as a logging function for long-term measurements, graphical evaluations, a reporting function, and data synchronization with our professional software, MultiMeasure Professional, via the cloud.

Health Risks of E-Dust and A-Dust

Fine particulate matter that poses a health risk consists of a complex mixture of various particles and is classified into different fractions based on their size. Depending on the type of deposition, particle size, and location, dust can cause severe irritation and diseases of the respiratory tract, skin, and eyes.

Therefore, it is recommended to regularly monitor the concentration of particulate matter in indoor air in order to implement targeted measures to reduce particulate matter levels and, if necessary, to protect occupants.

Particulate matter (PM10) – airborne particles inhaled through the mouth and nose

Dust that can be inhaled and enters the nasal cavity is called E-dust (formerly known as coarse dust), and this term refers to all dust particles with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 10 micrometers, as the PM10 dust fraction. This clearly visible dust is generated primarily at construction sites, in manufacturing, or during manual labor, and can enter a room even when windows are open.

Dust (PM2.5) – inhalable particulate matter

PM2.5 particulate matter—also known as A-dust – consists of very fine particles with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 3 micrometers, which are so small that they can penetrate even the smallest lung branches, known as alveoli (air sacs). The most well-known sources of particulate matter are exhaust gases from internal combustion engines and industrial facilities, as well as brake and tire friction on roads, which means that even modern electric cars produce harmful particulate matter.

For comparison: a strand of hair has a diameter of about 50–70 µm and is therefore 5–7 times larger than E-dust and up to 28 times larger than A-dust.

MultiMeasure mobile app – smart measurement data collection and analysis

With the free MultiMeasure mobile app, stored measurement data becomes even more transparent. Just like the MultiMeasure Studio Professional 2.0 analysis software developed by Trotec for cross-device management, analysis, and reporting of measurement data on a computer, the MultiMeasure mobile app—available for free on Android and iOSenables professional measurement data management with a wide range of useful features. The app automatically detects the BQ21 handheld measuring device and numerous other measuring devices with Bluetooth® connectivity, and these can be quickly and easily connected wirelessly to a mobile device.

The functionality of the MultiMeasure mobile app goes beyond simply displaying stored measurement values. All stored data can be displayed either numerically or as a graphical chart, and can also be saved as a series of measurements using the logging feature for long-term analysis. Even assigning measurement data to different projects (e.g., departments, rooms, buildings, etc.) is a breeze with the customer-supported app—including text and report templates for professional measurement data reports.

Benefits of exercise:

  • Compact environmental monitoring device for recording fine particulate matter pollution and climate data
  • 2-inch color screen for simultaneous display of all measured parameters
  • Memory for up to 5,000 entries
