Winix air purifiers’ Plasmawave® technology harnesses nature’s ability to purify the air and recreates a natural, safe, and effective air purification process. Our air purifier technology generates a safe charge of bipolar ions (positive and negative) and disperses them into the air. As the ions attach to the surface of air pollutants, such as bacteria or viruses, they naturally remove hydrogen from the molecular structure of the pollutants. As a result, the virus loses its ability to replicate in the host cell and is destroyed, and the bacterial membrane is also broken down. The removal of viruses from the air is carried out safely, and people can remain in the same room.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. WINIX air purifiers with PlasmaWave® technology generate a brief electrical charge to create bipolar ions from moisture in the air, which are then dispersed into the air. This electrical discharge is safe and lasts only for a brief moment (nanoseconds).
  2. Hydrogen (H+) and oxygen ions (-O2). The ions attach to the surface of air pollutants, forming hydroxyl radicals, which remove hydrogen from the structure of the pollutant, virus, or bacterium.
  3. This reaction removes air pollutants and allows the ions to utilize the missing hydrogen ion that was removed from the structure of the air pollutants. The byproduct is once again (H₂O), or water in the form of vapor.

WHY IS PLASMAWAVE® MORE EFFECTIVE THAN OTHER CURRENTLY AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES?

Winix Plasmawave® technology may be mistakenly referred to as an “ionizer” or confused with technology that generates negative ions. Winix technology is much more effective because it generates both positive and negative ions. Ionizers, on the other hand, generate only negative ions. Air purifiers that use negative ions do not remove air pollutants. Instead, negative ions cause pollutant particles to clump together, making them heavier so they settle on furniture and floor surfaces. Everyday activities, such as walking or vacuuming, can release these pollutants back into the air, causing them to circulate again. Only WINIX Plasmawave® air purifier technology effectively reduces the concentration of air pollutants in indoor air.

Is PLASMAWAVE® safe?

The WINIX air purifier’s Plasmawave® technology complies with the California Air Resources Board’s AB 2276 standard, which is the United States’ strictest certification benchmark for indoor air ozone emissions. To achieve compliance, air purifiers must be tested for electrical safety, and their ozone emission levels must be below 0.05 parts per million.
