The television program “Kassensturz,” broadcast by Swiss Radio and Television (SRF), sent a total of 10 air humidifiers to a laboratory for testing. The test also included ultrasonic humidifiers. One of the goals of the analysis conducted by the German laboratory Synlab in Essen was to measure the amount of bacteria and mold released into the air. A surprising result: all four ultrasonic humidifiers failed the test, with some of them literally reaching breath-taking maximum values. You can find the test results here. Therefore, consumers are advised to use SecoSan® sticks to prevent the growth of microbes and bacteria in ultrasonic humidifiers.
Bacteria are a natural part of our daily lives, and the concentration in “normal” indoor air is typically 100–500 colony-forming units (CFU). However, according to experts, this becomes a health hazard when the output reaches 20,000 CFU per hour. All of the ultrasonic humidifiers tested, however, released significantly more bacteria into the air: the maximum values ranged from 2.6 to a whopping 23 million CFU per hour. As a result, all four devices received an “unsatisfactory” overall rating due to contamination. How should consumers generally deal with the persistent problem of recurrent contamination in humidifiers? As the best preventive measure against the growth of otherwise circulating microbes and bacteria, we recommend adding a SecoSan® stick to the water tank early on.
SecoSan® – Water Purification “Made in Germany”
SecoSan® prevents the proliferation of microbes and bacteria through silver ions. Thanks to its special antimicrobial surface, silver ions are released directly into the bacteria and microbes in the immediate vicinity. This effectively inhibits microbial growth, keeping the water clean and uncontaminated. Best of all, SecoSan® self-regulates its dosage—making overdosing or underdosing impossible.
The SecoSan® Stick can be inserted into virtually any water tank and reliably keeps the water and drinking water sterile for six months—as tested by leading German testing institutes. The active SecoSan® ingredient complies with the requirements of the German Drinking Water Ordinance, is completely tasteless, and can therefore also be used in the water tank of a coffee machine or in an oral irrigator.
SecoSan Stick – for effective protection against water contamination
There is a SecoSan® Stick to suit every water tank size, available in a total of 6 different sizes: from the smallest Stick 10 for 10-liter containers—which keeps 3,500 liters of water clean—to the largest Stick 60 for containers up to 60 liters, which keeps a total of 21,000 liters of water clean.
