¹ According to tests conducted by KCL (Korea Conformity Laboratories), Coway air purifiers have demonstrated their ability to capture dust, pollen, dander, viruses, and bacteria from the air. They were tested in a 30㎥ chamber in accordance with the Korea Air Purifier Association standard (SPS-KACA 002-132:2018, as amended) to measure the removal efficiency of 0.01㎛ particles. The test was conducted at maximum fan speed under normal room temperature and humidity conditions. Performance may vary in customers’ actual living environments.
² Coway air purifiers equipped with filters featuring GreenHEPA™ technology removed 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and pollen from the air, based on tests conducted by the Japan Food Research Laboratories (JFRL) in accordance with the JEM 1467 standard. The tested air purifiers include the AIRMEGA AP-1516D, AIRMEGA AP-1220B, and AIRMEGA MIGHTY, as well as the AIRMEGA 150, AIRMEGA 250, AIRMEGA 300S, and the AIRMEGA 400S, for which a test report will be available in the first half of 2022. All devices have been tested by JFRL, and the results listed above were obtained during the time period indicated below.
  • Virus: Tested with Escherichia coli phage ΦX174 NBRC 103405 for 60 minutes
  • Bacteria: Tested with Staphylococcus epidermidis NBRC 12993, 60 minutes
  • Molds/fungi: Tested with Penicillium citrinum NBRC 6352 for 60 minutes
  • Pollen: Tested with cedar pollen extract, 30 minutes
The Japan Food Research Laboratories (JFRL) tested Coway’s green HEPA filter material against the influenza A virus (H1N1) and Staphylococcus aureus, and after 24 hours of incubation at room temperature, no growth was detected on the material.
Both tests were conducted using small test samples cut from the green HEPA filter material; therefore, this disclaimer applies to all Coway products that use this filter.
  • Virus: Tested with type A influenza virus (H1N1), 3 cm x 3 cm autoclaved sample
  • Bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, inoculated onto a 50 mm × 50 mm test specimen.
³ Tested with human coronavirus (HCoV-OC43) Coway GreenHEPA™ technology-based filter material by BioPS Co., Ltd., a research organization in South Korea specializing in virus removal studies. The test method used was a filter material coupon test to monitor neutralization efficiency. After being kept at room temperature for 2 hours, the virus removal rate following contact between the virus and the filter material was over 99.999%, resulting in the neutralization or inactivation of the virus. The same result was observed after 12 hours and 24 hours. This specific test was conducted using human coronavirus (HCoV-OC43) as an experimental model virus (not COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2)), as OC-43 is one of seven types of coronaviruses that can infect humans. Note: Air purifiers are known to be effective in preventing COVID-19. However, they should never be considered the primary method of preventing viral infection. Handwashing, avoiding close contact, and avoiding enclosed spaces in public places are necessary to minimize the potential risk of viral infection. Coway supports all patients and healthcare workers around the world who are working tirelessly to prevent and treat the spread of dangerous viruses.
* The CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) for particulate matter is tested by a certified third-party laboratory in accordance with the GB/T 18801-2015 standard. The measurement specifications are defined in the GB/T 18801-2015 standard, which requires that two particle concentration decay rates be determined in a test chamber of a specified volume (Vchamber): the natural decay rate with the air purifier off (knat) and the decay rate observed during the measurement. Measurements are performed in a 30-volume-chamber that is empty except for an air purifier placed on the table, two fans for air mixing and recirculation, and some measurement peripherals (primarily tubes). The chamber is maintained at a temperature of 25 ± 2 °C and a relative humidity of 50 ± 10%. Cigarette smoke is used as the test aerosol, and the particle number concentration in the range of > 0.3 µm is measured using an optical aerosol spectrometer (kAC). The decay rate k is determined based on the measured temporal decay of the particle concentration C(t), starting from the initial concentration C0:
* The room size is calculated in accordance with standard NRCC-54013, using a CADR value tested in accordance with standard GB/T18801-2015.
  • NRCC: Method for Testing Air Purifiers
  • Room size formula: Room size = 0.26 * CADR
Note: Performance results may vary depending on the customer’s actual operating environment.
