How Indoor Air Quality Affects Your Company’s Financial Health and Employee Satisfaction
Indoor air quality is a major concern for businesses, building managers, tenants, and employees, as it can affect people’s health, comfort, well-being, and productivity.
But let’s look at this from a business perspective:
- Are you aware of how many sick days your employees take each year?
- On average, how much does one sick day cost your company?
- If your work environment were pleasant and clean, would your employees be more productive?
- Is the air in your office dry, too humid, or just right? Do you know?
- What is the CO2 level in your office?
- What is the level of airborne particles in your office?
- If your company’s employees were more focused, would the results be better?
- If there were a lower risk of infection at your workplace, how would that affect your business?
- If your employees felt comfortable at work, how would that affect their productivity?
At this point, we might take refuge in the old notion that this is how it has always been and that we’ll all just have to put up with it.
Or one can take a more conscious approach based on rational thinking.
Which path would you choose?
If you choose the second option, I recommend reading on. If you chose the first option, you can read on for your own education or just to pass the time, or you can carry on as you always have.
Let’s go over the answers to these questions together.
- Are you aware of how many sick days your employees take each year?
- On average, how much does one sick day cost your company?
If you have 15 coworkers in your office and each of them takes 12 sick days a year, the total number of sick days per year is 180. Studies conducted in Sweden show that having a Coway air purifier in the office reduced sick days by 22.5%. In total, that would amount to 40.5 days. If your employees’ daily productivity (at a typical Estonian manufacturing company) is 509 euros, then multiplying that by 40.5 days results in a lost revenue of 20,614 euros. If there are 150 employees, the total would be significantly higher.
- If your work environment were pleasant and clean, would your employees be more productive?
Let’s imagine that your workspace is a bit stuffy and, at the same time, too dry. Those who are more aware understand that a person in such an environment has a harder time concentrating, their decision-making ability is impaired, and they tire more quickly.
But if we were to choose the same room with purified and humidified air, would the employee’s ability to concentrate and make decisions be better? Would the person be more energetic, and would their productivity or work performance be better? Yes, this has long been scientifically proven through experiments.
- Is the air in your office dry, too humid, or just right? Do you know?
- What is the CO2 level in your office?
- What is the level of airborne particles in your office?
Have you measured the air quality and humidity levels in your office? Do you know what the situation is like in your office? If not, it might be a good idea to have it measured. We can help you with that. Using professional equipment, we’ll measure the air quality in your office and, if necessary, propose a solution based on the parameters of your office space. You can choose to rent or purchase an air purifier and a humidifier—whichever solution works best for you.
- If your company’s employees were more focused, would the results be better?
- If there were a lower risk of infection at your workplace, how would that affect your business?
- If your employees felt comfortable at work, how would that affect their productivity?
Finally, if the air quality at your workplace were within normal limits and the humidity level were between 30 and 55% depending on the season, would people be more likely to feel calmer and, as a result, perform better at work? Belief is one thing; knowledge is another. It has been scientifically proven that work performance is significantly better in a better environment, and this has a positive impact on the company—namely, increased revenue and profits. Customers will enjoy their time at your business, and at the same time, the risk of your employees being infected by customers will decrease.
