In a test of 13 different air purifiers, the AP-1220B emerged as the clear winner. Testfakta evaluated the products based on several key criteria, such as purification performance, user-friendliness, energy consumption, and noise level.

Significant differences in power

Based on the results of an independent laboratory test, Testfakta ranks the Coway AP-1220B air purifier at the top of the “medium-sized rooms” segment with a score of 8.7 out of a possible 10.

Performance is typically measured using CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), and according to Testfakta’s data, there are significant differences between what manufacturers claim on paper and how the air purifiers actually performed in laboratory tests. The bottom three spots were taken by the Dyson TP04, Xiaomi, and Stadler Form Roger Little. Coway came out on top overall “thanks to its excellent performance in removing dust and fine particles, both at 37 dB and at maximum power.”

The purpose of the laboratory test was to compare the products’ ability to purify the air of allergy-causing particles such as pollen and fine dust. In addition, all products were compared based on their noise levels, which were not considered disruptive. According to the WHO, background noise that disrupts sleep begins at 30 dB, which is roughly equivalent to the sound of a light breeze. Testfakta’s test was based on 37 dB, which corresponds to approximately 30 dB at a distance of two meters from the air purifier.

Coway AP-1220B Air Purifier – Best in Test

The Coway AP-1220B is an air purifier that uses three filter sets to remove 99.5% of all harmful particles up to 0.3 μm from your indoor environment. This means that this product is not only ideal for people with asthma and allergies, but is also beneficial for all homes and workplaces. If anyone in your household has allergies or asthma, you can rest assured that the Coway AP-1220B is also recommended by Asthma Allergy Nordic and ECARF.

According to Testfakta’s lab test, the Coway AP-1220B stands out in several areas, and they cite several reasons for naming it the best in the test. The combination of high air purification capacity, user-friendliness, low noise levels, and low energy consumption resulted in a score of 8.7.

Fully Automatic Air Purification – Automatic Mode

The Coway air purifier features user-friendly functions. In automatic mode, the air purifier adapts to the air quality in the room and makes all the necessary adjustments so you never have to change any settings.

The AP-1220B is equipped with a light sensor that detects when it gets dark in the room and then automatically turns off all the LEDs and lowers the volume, so you can get a good night’s sleep when the air purifier is in your bedroom.

Adjustable airflow

With the Coway AP-1220B, you can adjust the airflow to direct it forward or upward. This means that, depending on the room, the air purifier can cover a wide area or reach far. This ensures greater circulation of clean air. When the airflow is adjusted to suit the surrounding environment, the air purification capacity can increase dramatically, helping to create a cleaner indoor environment.

The Coway AP-1008CH air purifier also achieved the best result in the 2016 Testfacts test

An article from 2016;

The Swedish Technical Research Institute (SP) tested six different bedroom air purifiers on behalf of Testfakta. The test, which measured the air purifiers’ performance and energy efficiency, named Coway the clear winner, with its 1008CH model receiving an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5.

We’re spending more and more time indoors, and there’s more air pollution in our homes than we can see with the naked eye. Consumer electronics, furniture, clothing, and building materials release particles that can cause discomfort and health problems for us. The outdoor air that we let into our homes also periodically contains pollen and pollutants from traffic that affect our health. One way to reduce these problems is to get an air purifier for the bedroom. However, simply buying an air purifier isn’t a good idea, as the test shows. In addition to significant variations in the effectiveness of the tested air purifiers, the test shows that the way they purify the air is also important—not only in terms of efficiency but also for users’ health. The problem is a specific type of ozone emitted by some of the air purifiers in the test that use ionization.

In a comment on the test, Professor Tom Bellander of the Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Stockholm County Council states the following:

– Ozone severely irritates the respiratory tract and has also been linked to premature death. If an ionizing air purifier generates ozone in addition to particles, ozone is produced. This was a known problem with this type of product as far back as 30 years ago, which I thought the industry had already solved, says Tom Bellander.

Coway, the winner of the test, has proven that all of its air purifiers on the market effectively purify the air without ionization, using well-proven, effective filters and three models that are already recommended by the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association.

In the air purifier test, they assumed that you should be able to sleep while the air purifier is turned on. Therefore, measurements were taken at the speed closest to a noise level of 37 decibels, which is the standard developed by the Asthma and Allergy Association for air purifiers. For all devices in the comparison, this meant the lowest speed setting.

Facts

The Swedish Technical Research Institute (SP) tested six different bedroom air purifiers on behalf of Testfakta.
We have included only devices that claim to operate at a noise level of 37 decibels. According to the Asthma and Allergy Association, this noise level is considered acceptable for sleeping.
Measurements of air purifier performance and energy efficiency were taken at the fan speed that was closest to 37 decibels for each device.
Purification capacity is the amount of clean air that air purifiers produce per hour. Cleaning capacity was measured using particles of various sizes: 0.3–0.5 μm, 0.5–1 μm, 1–5 μm, and total particle count> 0.3 μm. The table shows the purification capacity for particles> 0.3 μm.
In this context, energy efficiency measures how much purified air you get per watt per hour.
Ozone measurements were taken in the laboratory by measuring ozone levels at the air purifiers’ intake and exhaust vents. The measurements were repeated five times.

If you’re looking for an air purifier whose performance you can be 100% sure of, Coway units are definitely the way to go.

Coway Air Purifier: 100% Reliable Coway’s new AP-1220B air purifier, like its predecessor, has been rigorously tested in the Testfakta laboratory.
